Just keep floating!

When pharmacists don't have a specific pharmacy that they work at, they are called floaters. Floaters are called upon to help out when a pharmacist needs a vacation or when a pharmacy is in the process of finding a permanent pharmacist. For the latter of the two reasons, we had a floater at our pharmacy.

A lady came up to the counter to pick up her medication. It wasn't quite ready yet. There had been a problem with one of the prescriptions, but the floater had worked hard and gotten it all figured out. The lady, not realizing this and just seeing that her prescription was not ready yet, got a little angry. She asked me, "Is that a new pharmacist?"

"No," I replied, "She is a floater."

"Well, they should just float her on out of here then!"

Uh........OK lady. Whatever you say.
